OSAAtoday looks at Monday’s first-round 6A, 3A and 2A/1A playoff baseball games in the OSAA / OnPoint Community Credit Union State Championships. We will update this story as results roll in.

6A

No. 1 South Salem 8, No. 32 Beaverton 3 – Noah Scharer went 2-for-3 with two runs scored and three RBIs and Teagan Scott scored twice, off of four walks, in support of Kellen Bowman, who allowed just one run while striking out five over six innings.

No. 16 Sheldon 3, No. 17 Barlow 2 -- Sheldon walked off to victory, scoring two runs in the bottom of the seventh on a Jaxon Detzler single to turn around a 2-1 deficit. Cam Thomas went 6.2 innings on the mound for the Irish, yielding just two unearned runs.

No. 9 Grant 6, No. 24 Forest Grove 0 – The Generals hit four homers, by Diego Martinez Griffin, Grant Snidow, Elliot Raiton and Tre Hoffert, in support of Cooper Yudhishthu, who went six inning, fanning eight while scattering just three hits.

No. 8 Roseburg 4, No. 25 Tigard 0 --

No. 5 Jesuit 9, No. 28 Lincoln 0 – An eight-run fourth inning paved the way for the decisive Crusader victory. Griffin Nicholas and Kainoa Santiago each drove in two runs in the frame. Dillon Garg later hit a homer for Jesuit, all in support of starter Johnny Ingalls, who went five innings.

No. 12 Sandy 5, No. 21 North Medford 0 -- Max Green pitched a complete-game shutout for the Pioneers. He yielded three hits and whiffed eight. Brayden Sievertsen and Cooper Hibbs each drove in two runs for the victors.

No. 13 Sprague 13, No. 20 Lake Oswego 2 -- Holden Rasmussen powered Sprague, driving in five runs with a sacrifice fly in the fourth inning and a grand slam in the sixth. The Olympians took the lead in the fifth after a string of walks and singles, then extended their advantage with five more runs in the sixth. Jace Dalton secured the win on the mound, allowing just two runs over six innings while striking out five.

No. 4 Sherwood 4, No. 29 West Salem 1Connor Parry’s three-run home run, with two outs in the bottom of the seventh, broke a 1-1 tie and propelled the Bowmen to the home win. Parry also went the distance on the mound, yielding just one hit while fanning 13.

No. 3 Central Catholic 12, No. 30 Century 0 (five innings) -- Logan Anzellotti threw a five-inning, no-hitter, striking out 5, Matsen Saruwatari had a three-run double and Wyatt Brown, Lance McKey and Jake Pachmayr combined to go 8-for-8 with four RBIs for the Rams.

No. 14 Grants Pass 8, No. 19 Lakeridge 0 -- Bayden Morris tossed a shutout over six innings and Max Hayes drove in two and made a huge defensive play in the outfield for the victorious Cavemen. Evan Valenzuela and Treyton Powers each was 3-for-3 and Cam Holland plated two and closed the game on the mound.

No. 11 Sunset 3, No. 22 Nelson 0 -- Kruz Schoolcraft scattered four hits over six innings for the Apollos in the shutout win. He struck out seven. Fourth inning RBIs from Gavin Riley and Parker Raubuch gave Sunset its final margin of victory. Senior Noah Boria pitched well in defeat for Nelson. He struck out seven and yielded only five hits.

No. 6 Clackamas 2, No. 27 Westview 0Ben Foglio tossed a complete-game two-hitter and also had a key RBI single in the fifth that added a second run to the Cavalier total.

No. 7 McMinnville 5, No. 26 Aloha 4 (8 innings) -- McMinnville won an extra-inning thriller that looked like it was going to be a seven-inning no-hitter for Grizzly starter Brayden Mix. But down to the game's last strike, Aloha's Sammy Silva got a base hit to tie the game at 1-1. Aloha then scored three runs in the top of the eighth to put McMinnville on the brink of elimination. With two on and one out in the bottom of the eighth, AJ Morrison delivered a two-run double to draw the Grizzlies within one. Kane Sullivan followed with a run-tying double. Drew Bizon's hard ground ball past the first baseman plated the game winner.

No. 10 Tualatin 6, No. 23 Willamette 0 – Trenton Hertzog threw six scoreless, striking out 12, and helped his own cause with two doubles, a run scored and RBI in Tualatin’s home win.

No. 18 South Medford 3 No. 15 Ida B. Wells 2 – Ida B. Wells took a 2-0 lead into the top of the seventh but couldn’t hold it. The Panthers scored three in the top of the frame, on an RBI double from Brad Love, RBI ground out and Guardian error, to take the lead, then got three outs in the bottom to preserve the road win. Wells got its two runs in the bottom of the first, on a Cody Roletto sac fly and Cam Hammer single, and used strong pitching from Jack Burnham and Grae Wilson to blank the Panthers for the first six innings. Evan Rhoden shook off a slow start to go the distance on the mound for South Medford, striking out five..

No. 2 West Linn 8, No. 31 Newberg 3 – With the score tied at 3-3, the three-time defending champion Lions responded with five runs in the bottom of the sixth, capped by a Caden Klouda two-run homer. Klouda also set the Tigers down 1-2-3 in the seventh to close it out. Danny Wideman led the West Linn attack with three hits and four RBIs. Henry Curdy was 3-3 with a run driven in.


3A

No. 16 Yamhill-Carlton 8, No. 17 Brookings-Harbor 2  -- Gus Brunner had a no-hitter going through five innings and also homered and drove home three in the win for the Tigers. Brunner finished with a one-hitter and gave way to Tyler Pond, who finished up.

No. 20 Banks 8, No. 13 McLoughlin 7 (8 innings) -- Sophomore Cade Wilson celebrated his birthday with a game-tying RBI double in the top of the seventh and sophomore Wyatt Jackson's two-run single one inning later put the Braves up for good. Caleb Bonin got the win in relief, wriggling out of multiple jams. Cris Medina went the first 5.1 innings for Banks and yielded no earned runs while fanning eight.

No. 14 Lakeview 3, No. 19 Glide 0 -- Miles Maxwell shut out the Wildcats on five hits, fanning 12, and the Honkers broke a scoreless tie with three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning in the home win.

No. 15 Creswell 3, No. 18 Joseph / Enterprise / Wallowa 2 – Lefthander Matthew Jenkins tossed a complete-game six hitter, with seven strike outs, and Kayden Roberts was 3-for-3 with an RBI in the Bulldog win. Creswell trailed before Jaxon Pelham stroked a two-out, two-run double in the bottom of the fifth to put the Bulldogs on top for good. Jenkins retired six of the final seven hitters he faced to slam the door. Malcom Albee went five, allowing just two earned runs, in the loss.


2A/1A

No. 16 Lost River 7, No. 17 Oakridge 1 --

No. 12 Lowell 8, No. 21 Gaston 5 – Lowell scored eight unearned runs to rally from behind for the home win.

No. 13 County Christian / North Clackamas Christian 10, No. 20 Grant Union / Prairie City / Monument 2Ethan Hiebenthal and Tyson Smith teamed on a four-hitter and Andy Ives and Shane Allphin each knocked in two runs to lead the Cougars to victory.

No. 19 Portland Christian 15, No. 14 Union / Cove 14 (8 innings) -- Down 8-3 after five inning, Portland Christian scored eight in the top of the sixth to go ahead, 11-8. Union / Cove responded with five in the bottom of the frame, including a go-ahead three-run homer; to make it 13-11 Bobcats after six. Portland Christian plated three top seven to go ahead, but Union / Cove tied it in the bottom half to send the game to extra innings. PC scored one in the eighth and Joseph Diesel closed the door. Diesel also was 3-for-6 at the plate with five RBIs. Noah Humphrey and Donovan Endres added two hits apiece for the victorious Royals. Diesel and starting pitcher Jack Mazurowski combined to strike out 10.

No. 22 Crosspoint Christian 10, No. 11 Regis 0 -- Casey Knecht went five innings, yielding just two hits, and the Crosspoint defense was perfect all game long. Nate Bowman sparked the offense with three hits and three RBIs.

No. 15 Heppner / Ione 6, No. 18 Illinois Valley 3 -- Ryan Haugen survived a rocky start -- he yielded three runs in the top of the first inning -- to toss a complete game for the Mustangs. Alakae Rodriguez had three RBIs to lead the offense. Jace Wilson and Caleb George also had good days at the dish.
