More than 70 teams will compete in the Oregon Cheerleading Coaches Association Game Day Championships.

Two, four, six, eight, who is the best Game Day team in the State?

We will find out this Saturday at the OCCA Game Day Championships. Starting at 8 a.m. on Oct. 7, more than 70 teams will compete in the Game Day, Mascot and Stomp & Shake divisions at Sherwood High School.

The Mascot and Stomp & Shake divisions are new to the competition this year. McMinnville and West Albany will be the first teams to compete in the Mascot division, and McDaniel will be the first team to compete in the Stomp & Shake division.

As for the Game Day divisions, many reigning champions will be back to defend their titles.

These teams include Westview Youth, Newberg Junior, Mountainside JV, Westside Christian, Gladstone, Ridgeview, Central, Thurston, Lakeridge, and Newberg. However, with only one weekend of competitions before this event and many teams not competing until this Saturday, clear frontrunners are difficult to predict.

There are also many new teams competing this weekend that could surprise everyone.

Doors open at 7:30 a.m. for the first session. Spectator admission is $10 (under 5 free). A schedule of the event can be found at www.occa.net. If you are unable to attend, check out the OCCA Instagram for updates @orcheercoaches.
