[Editor’s note: “Take Five” is a recurring feature designed to offer a quick look at some of Oregon’s most interesting high school sports standouts. This spring, Take Five will focus exclusively on seniors, whose final high school seasons have been canceled by the coronavirus. Today, we touch base with Stayton softballer Emma Heuberger, who has started at second for the Eagles since her freshman year. We posed 25 questions to Heuberger and asked her to pick five to answer. Here’s what she said…]
OSAAtoday: What kind of coach gets the best out of you as a player?
Emma Heuberger: The kind that knows what I am capable of and will hold me accountable when I make mistakes. I have always done best when there is a coach that is there to be strict with me. If there is a coach who I know would make me run or do something if I messed up, it helps motivates me to get better and try one hundred percent all the time.
OSAAtoday: What about going to college scares the bejeebers out of you?
Heuberger: The difference in teachers and professors. All of my high school teachers talk about how our professors won’t care about us as much as our current teachers. They say they have seen thousands of students and they are just there to teach you and you're just there to learn. This scares me because I have always been really used to having a close relationship with my teachers and am able to quickly ask them any questions I have but I know I won’t be able to communicate with professors the same as I do teachers right now. I am interested to see how that will affect me and my work in the long run.
OSAAtoday: Would you rather be famous on Instagram, YouTube or twitter? Why and what would you be famous for?
Heuberger: I would rather be famous off of YouTube than Instagram or twitter because then people would know me for my personality and get to know me better than just seeing pictures where people can easily make assumptions about you. I want people to know me for me and learn more about my crazy, goofy, outgoing personality.
OSAAtoday: What is your favorite class in school and why?
Heuberger: My favorite all-time subject in school was algebra. I have always liked math because I have been pretty good at it and it challenges me so I don't get bored of learning it. However, I am done with algebra for high school so my current favorite class is "Human Body Systems," which is anatomy and physiology. This class in general is really interesting and will help me for my future career of possibly being a nurse. Getting to learn about the body and how to help or avoid health problems is fun.
OSAAtoday: If you find yourself stranded on a deserted island and can only have one movie that you’re able to watch, what movie do you choose and why?
Heuberger: I would bring “The Greatest Showman” because It always makes me happy. This movie consists of a good story line and has amazing music and dancing in it. So if I were stranded at least I would have a movie I can watch, sing and dance to.
