WILSONVILLE – The Oregon School Activities Association (OSAA) announced Sofia Bell as the keynote speaker for the Second Annual Captains Camp, to be held, Saturday, September 27, at North Eugene High School. The Captains Camp, operated with the OSAA Student Advisory Council and the Oregon Air National Guard, brings captains and aspiring captains from OSAA member schools across the state for a day of intentional leadership.
To better accommodate the state’s geography, the location of this year’s event was rotated from Tigard High School in the Portland metro area, to the Eugene area.
“This is an opportunity for intentional leadership for future captains,” said OSAA assistant executive director Missy Smith. “We train and develop athletes to prepare for contests, and we believe we need to prepare captains and aspiring captains with the same level of development for leadership opportunities.
Bell is a graduate of Portland’s Jesuit High School and is entering her junior season with the Oregon women’s basketball program. Bell graduated from Oregon at the conclusion of her sophomore year with a business degree concentrating on finance. She is currently enrolled in Oregon’s MBA program.
Her father is Greg Bell, a former Oregon men’s basketball player and motivational speaker who authored Water the Bamboo: Unleashing the Potential of Teams and Individuals.
Alongside Bell’s keynote address, the one-day event will feature breakout sessions focused on character development and leadership skills. Major Chase Ronsman of the Oregon Air National Guard will also be presenting.
Registration remains open for the event, and interested attendees should contact the athletic director at their school.
