The OSAA requires that athletic directors and coaches must either complete the OSAA Beyond the Scoreboard online course or achieve a passing score on the test included with the NFHS Fundamentals of Coaching course. This is a one-time requirement. A certification through the American Sport Education Program (ASEP) satisfies the requirement in this rule so long as the Athletic Director or Coach was certified through ASEP prior to August 1, 2007.

Oregon State Law (ORS 336.485) requires that Coaches receive training to learn how to recognize the symptoms of a concussion and how to seek proper medical treatment for a person suspected of having a concussion. The NFHS Concussion in Sports free course satisfies this requirement. This training is required annually.

OSAA Racial Equity Training
OSAA requires that any Cheerleading or Dance/Drill Coach attend an OSAA Spirit Safety Clinic by the Fall first practice date of the Association year in which that person serves as coach. Should a Cheerleading or Dance/Drill Coach fail to attend an OSAA Spirit Safety Clinic by the Fall first practice date, the squad of the non-attending coach shall be prohibited from performing partner stunts, lifts, or tumbling until the Coach has attended a clinic. This training is required annually.

Oregon high school football coaches shall be trained annually in OSAA Football Certification which is composed of four component courses. Each the the following courses must be completed annually (regardless of the individual course's validity period): Heat Illness Prevention, Concussion in Sports, Sudden Cardiac Arrest, and Football Tackling.

The NFHS has developed this free course with support from national football experts, including high school football coaches and administrators. The videos and other resources in this course will help coaches teach, evaluate, and program tackling for their team.
