Fully recovered from knee surgery, La Salle Prep's Addison Wedin is looking for a big sophomore season.

It’s clear that three-point shooting runs in the Wedin family.

La Salle Prep sophomore Addison Wedin – the sister of Taycee Wedin, the state’s career three-point leader – put on a show from long distance Tuesday when the top-ranked Falcons opened their season with a 91-41 win at No. 4 Crescent Valley in a 5A nonleague girls basketball game.

The 5-foot-11 guard went 9 of 10 from behind the arc and made 15 of 20 shots overall to finish with 39 points. The nine three-pointers is two off the all-time state record of 11, set by Franklin’s Shoni Schimmel in 2009.

“We were blown away,” said La Salle Prep coach Kelli Wedin, Addison’s mother. “It wasn’t like we were calling her number at all. It was in the flow of our offense against their zone. A lot of it was in transition.”

Taycee Wedin, who is starting her college career at Saint Mary’s this season, made 359 three-pointers in four seasons at La Salle Prep. She never made more than seven in a game, however.

Last season, Addison Wedin made 15 three-pointers in 12 games after returning from surgery to repair a torn ACL. She averaged 7.5 points per game for La Salle Prep, which finished as the 5A runner-up.

“She’s worked really hard to improve her shot,” Kelli Wedin said. “With the whole ACL thing, it just kind of allowed her to focus on that. She’s really worked on her conditioning and getting back into game shape, and I think that came into play, as well.”

The Falcons lit it up against Crescent Valley, shooting 53 percent from the field, including 16 of 29 from three-point range. Senior guard Alyson Miura, a transfer from Clackamas who has signed with USC, made 4 of 7 three-point attempts and scored 18 points in her La Salle Prep debut. Junior guard Emily Niebergall added 12 points, 10 assists and seven rebounds.

Unfortunately for the Falcons, Tuesday’s game could be the last in a while for Miura, who felt pain in her collarbone late in the game. X-rays did not reveal a fracture, but after visiting a specialist Thursday, it was recommended that she take about three weeks off, according to Kelli Wedin.

Her absence will be felt when La Salle Prep plays host to No. 7 Springfield on Saturday and visits two-time reigning 6A champion Southridge on Tuesday.

“Her shot looks good, but she said it’s painful to move it in a couple different directions,” Kelli Wedin said. “Obviously, we just want her to be healthy for the main portion of the season. But it’s a huge blow going into these next two games. We don’t have any depth as it is.”
