REMINDERS
The OSAA Association Year ends on Memorial Day (Monday - May 27, 2013). Please make sure all coaches and administrators are aware of this date so any summer activities this year do not begin until Tuesday, May 28.

The OSAA wants to remind you of the following meetings still to take place this year. OSAA Executive Board Meeting - Monday, May 6. Classification and Districting Committee Meeting - Monday, May 20. Sportsmanship Award Reminder (TOMORROW, May 3) - The inaugural OSAA Sportsmanship Award's nomination form is now available online. Please take part in this program that highlights sportsmanship in your entire school community. Selected classification winners will receive award recognition and a $1,000 check from the OSAA. Classification and Districting Committee - April 30 Meeting Update - The Classification and Districting Committee has released its latest update and Draft #7. State Championship Committee - April 29 Meeting Update - The State Championship Committee has released their second update. Future meeting dates and topics to focus on at the next meeting are outlined. The next Committee meeting will be held Monday, June 3 at 9am at the OSAA office in Wilsonville. Executive Board Meeting - May 6 Agenda - The agenda for the final Executive Board meeting of the school year is available. ImPACT Scholarship - The OSAA Foundation has released its fourth year of the ImPACT Scholarship. Schools can apply by June 1 to implement the program in their schools for the 2013-14 school year. Contact Kyle Stanfield with questions.

Revisions to NFHS Track and Field Rule 7-5 - The NFHS Track and Field Rules Committee has modified Rule 7-5 to allow ASTM Certified padding in the pole vault plant box starting immediately. Contact Brad Garrett with questions.

Farmers Insurance Group Scholar Program - Graduating seniors who have achieved a 3.50 or higher cumulative GPA and earned a varsity letter in an OSAA-sanctioned sport (Scholar Athletes) or competed in an OSAA-sanctioned activity (Activity Scholars) are eligible. Each senior receives a certificate of achievement from the OSAA and Farmers Insurance Group. Schools may be contacted by Farmers Insurance agents to assist in the presentation of the certificates. To order certificates, log on to the OSAA website, Awards and the Farmers Scholar Program link. You can fill out the web-based form on that page to let us know how many of each type of certificate you need, as well as the date, time, site and type of presentation ceremony. REMINDERS
The OSAA reimbursed $261,330.95 to 227 OSAA member schools for Winter State Championship participation. Per Executive Board policy, travel reimbursement checks were only sent to those schools that have completed the NFHS Winter Participation Survey, 2013 Winter Pre-Selections and have turned in gate receipts from Winter State Championship events and endowment games.

OSAA Choir State Championships Registration Form is Now Posted - Deadline April 15, 4pm - The on-line Registration Form for the 2013 OSAA Choir State Championships has been posted on the Choir page of the OSAA website. IMPORTANT: Please inform directors that the password necessary to access the on-line Registration Form is: STATEREGISTRATION (Note that the Password must be typed in all CAPS with no spaces.) The State Choir "Tape Pool Qualifiers" and State Championships performance order will be posted on the OSAA website by noon on Monday, April 22. Contact Molly Hays with questions.

OSAA Band/Orchestra State Championships Registration Form is Now Posted - Deadline Tuesday, April 16, 4pm. The on-line Registration Form for the 2013 OSAA Band/Orchestra State Championships has been posted on the Band/Orchestra page of the OSAA website. Please inform directors that the password necessary to access the on-line Registration Form is: STATEREGISTRATION. Note that the password must be typed in all CAPS with no spaces. All competition must be completed on or before April 13. Board Policy "Modifications to Address Conflicts with Religious Beliefs" - In order to provide adequate time to plan for and provide modifications to championship events that are required to address conflicts with a student's religious beliefs, schools shall notify OSAA of the possible conflicts as soon as possible for spring championships. Contact any Executive Staff member with questions.

Rankings Committee Meeting - March 20 Meeting Update - The Rankings Committee has released their latest update. The committee will meet again on Monday June 10, at 9am at the OSAA Office in Wilsonville. Final recommendations will be sent to the Executive Board for review this summer. Items include removal of the OOWP column in the system and to recommend that the better ranked team always be the home team in the State Championship brackets. Contact Peter Weber with questions.

Football Helmet Information (NAERA) - The NFHS has been provided with a copy of a newly enacted policy by NEARA pertaining to after-market football helmet attachments. Under the policy, reconditioners would remove such attachments and either return them to the submitting high schools or destroy them, at the schools' direction. 2012-13 Oregonian Cup Winter Results - The results for the 2012-13 Oregonian Cup have been calculated through the winter season. Contact Molly Hays with questions.

2nd NWTA Wheelchair Tennis Camp for Kids - This second annual clinic featuring David Wagner will take place in April, May and June. Please see link for additional information.

If you have hosted post-season playoff games this winter, gate receipts and your ticket report are due in our office one week after the game. Winter travel reimbursement checks will not be sent to any school that has outstanding gate receipts from playoffs. Contact Jan Krause with questions.

OSAA / Trail Blazers Champion Night - The OSAA and the Portland Trail Blazers have teamed up to present the OSAA State Champions Night Sunday, April 7 when the Blazers take on the Dallas Mavericks. Each state championship team will receive a limited number of complementary tickets to the game. Fall and Winter State Champions will be honored at halftime of the game. View link for details.

2013-14 Track & Field State Championships Date Change - The University of Oregon has notified the OSAA that the date for next year's Track & Field State Championships at Hayward Field will be May 22-24. This is a week earlier from what was previously posted on the OSAA calendar. Contact Brad Garrett with questions.

Schools that hosted winter state playoff games need to send in their gate receipts before Spring Break so we can get travel reimbursement checks sent out. Contact Jan Krause with questions.

OSAA FOUNDATION
Adidas generously donated nearly $2,500 to the OSAA Foundation from an internal fundraiser. In return Adidas shoes were sent to 30 track and field athletes in five OSAA member schools. Chemawa, Waldport, Ontario, Wheeler and Paisley were the recipients of this grant. Thanks to Adidas for their support of Oregon High School Athletes!

OSAA FOUNDATION
In 2011-12 the OSAA Foundation set a record by helping 150 schools and 2,428 student across the state through the Student Assistance Program. 2012-13 is well on its way to breaking that mark! OSAA Foundation Teams up with the Safeway Foundation - The OSAA Foundation has received a generous donation from the Safeway Foundation to help student-athletes across the state. The fourth wave of the grant has been delivered to North Valley, Klamath Union, Crow, North Medford, Molalla, Canby and Century high schools. We say thanks to the Safeway Foundation for this generous grant and look next month to see if your school was selected in the fifth wave of donations.

REMINDERS
Fall travel reimbursement checks were sent out to schools last week. Per Executive Board policy, travel reimbursement checks were only sent to those schools that have completed the NFHS Fall Participation Survey, 2013 Fall Pre-Selections and have turned in gate receipts from Fall State Championship events and endowment games. The OSAA reimbursed a total of $329,694.30 to 203 schools this fall.

OSAA ScoreCenter Instructions - Managing Records for Out of State Opponents - This memo outlines how to manage records for your out of state opponents in ScoreCenter. The best way to insure you are gathering correct, timely information is to reach out to the school's athletic director and head coach to establish a reliable contact. Websites like MaxPreps and HighSchoolSports.net have proven to be inaccurate in some cases. Included is a one-page Out of State Opponent Form schools may use in gathering Athletic Director and Coach contact information for these teams. Contact Peter Weber with questions.

REMINDERS
OSAA ScoreCenter Reminders - With many basketball teams participating in tournaments over the holidays, remember that schools hosting tournaments are only able to add games and submit scores for games their team actually plays in. If you are hosting a tournament, we encourage you to email the bracket to peterw@osaa.org in advance so we can help make sure that all of the games are inputted with the correct teams, tournament name, neutral designation, etc. Also, remember that V, JV and FR rosters may be inputted and printed from your team page. Many teams and leagues are utilizing this feature, especially since rosters can now be accessed through the ScoreCenter Mobile site. Contact Peter Weber with questions.

Fall travel reimbursement checks will be sent out to schools during the first week of January, 2013. Per Executive Board policy, travel reimbursement checks will only sent to those schools that have completed the NFHS Fall Participation Survey, 2012 Fall Pre-Selections and have turned in gate receipts from Fall State Championship events and endowment games.

Classification and Districting Meeting - December 10 Summary - This update details areas of consensus by the Committee, including proposed use of adjusted ADM figures and elimination of hybrid leagues. Also included are three draft proposals for various approaches to classification structure (6 classifications, 5 classifications, and 5 classifications with 6 for Football only). The next Committee meeting will be held Monday, January 28 at 9am at the OSAA office in Wilsonville. All correspondence sent to kyles@osaa.org will be forwarded to the entire committee.

Dr. Thad Stanford (1932-2012) - The OSAA lost a great friend when Dr. Thad Stanford of Salem passed away on Wednesday, December 5. Dr. Stanford was a charter member of the OSAA Sports Medicine Advisory Committee since its' inception in the early 1970's, and served as chairperson of the Committee for over 30 years before stepping down in June 2008. Dr. Stanford was selected to serve the National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS) when it first formed a Sports Advisory Committee in 1996. He was later selected as chairperson of the NFHS Committee from 2000 - 2004. During this time, the NFHS published its' first two editions of their Sports Medicine Handbook, which was distributed to over 19,000 high schools across the United States and Canada. Dr. Stanford was the first doctor to be inducted into the National High School Hall of Fame in 2004 for his lifetime commitment to the health and safety of high school athletes. Dr. Stanford served as team doctor for several Salem area high schools over the years. He was an annual volunteer at many OSAA State Championship events, including Cross Country, Track & Field, Football, Basketball, and Baseball. For more information please see the link below.

REMINDERS
Soccer Home Team Uniform Rule Change - Beginning with the Fall 2013 soccer season, the varsity home team shall wear solid white jerseys and solid white socks, and the visiting team shall wear dark jerseys and socks. White jerseys with color piping and/or color side panels will not meet the requirements of this rule. This rule change will be enforced at the varsity level beginning with the Fall 2013 season. If you aren't sure whether your soccer jerseys (or the ones you plan to purchase) meet the new requirement, please email a picture of the jersey to Peter Weber for confirmation.

PROPOSED Fall 2013 Special Districts - Using the information provided to us by schools about sports in which they will be participating next Fall, we have created the PROPOSED Fall 2013 Special Districts. We are requesting that each school carefully study their placements (Football, Volleyball, Cross Country, and Soccer) and notify us in writing by December 1 of any errors, omissions, proposed alternative placements or co-op designations. The Executive Board will adopt the Special District Placements in December. ScoreCenter Connectivity Issues - We know that many of you have experienced connectivity issues with ScoreCenter at various times during the Fall season, particularly on busy Friday nights. We have been and are continuing to work on addressing those issues associated with a significant increase in traffic to the ScoreCenter site. Fall Participation and Fall PreSelection Forms - Deadline October 3 - Please go to SchoolNet to update your Fall Participation and Fall Pre-Selections by October 3. This information will help us create leagues for next fall and allow us to track participation across the state in Fall activities. Contact any Executive Staff member with questions.

As of today (September 27), member schools are no longer required to track heat and humidity for the purposes of the Fall Sports Practice Model for this school year. Schools must still limit practice to a maximum of five hours per day and are encouraged to allow for water breaks and general acclimatization to hot and / or humid weather.

OWWMP Initial BIA Assessor Workshop - Anyone who plans to serve as an OSAA Certified BIA Assessor within the Oregon Wrestling Weight Monitoring Program must complete a required workshop prior to performing assessments during the 2012-13 school year. OSAA FOUNDATION
The OSAA Foundation has received a $25,000 gift from the Safeway Foundation for its Student Assistance Program.  The program focuses on students in member schools that need the most help to obtain equipment, clothing, shoes or gear to participate in a co-curricular activity throughout the year. A total of 250 students in 40 schools will be affected. The OSAA Foundation will be contacting your school if you are one of the selected recipients.

REMINDERS
Effective January 2012, the OSAA Executive Board updated the Summer Policy to limit the use of protective equipment during the summer. In addition, the policy requires that during summer activities under the direction of any person affiliated with the high school program, including practices, contests, weight training and conditioning, OSAA regulations regarding the Heat Index Calculator are in effect. Per OSAA Policy, the Heat Index needs to be recorded starting the first Practice Date (August 20). Contact any Executive Staff member with questions.

2012-13 Rule Book Order Form - Don't forget to get your 2012-13 rules books orders in to the OSAA. Fall Sports Orders will be shipped the week of August 13. Each school will receive one rule book for each OSAA-sanctioned activity they are registered in that has a rule book. This free rule book will be sent prior to the first practice date of each season. 6A Executive Board Vacancy - Rob Saxton, the 6A Executive Board representative and Superintendent of the Tigard-Tualatin School District, has been appointed by Governor John Kitzhaber to become Oregon's first appointed statewide schools chief. We thank Rob for his two years of service on the OSAA Executive Board and wish him well in his new endeavors.

The OSAA Foundation has released its third opportunity for the ImPACT Scholarship. The OSAA Foundation will pay the first year of a purchased package for schools to implement the ImPACT program. Eleven schools took advantage of the program in 2011-12. Applications must be received by August 1, 2012. Contact Kyle Stanfield with questions.
